Summer 2015 Update

We have many exciting announcements to bring to you, so take a moment to read through this. As always, our goal is to provide you with great fitness options to help you get and stay fit. Plus, we want to build our growing community of Urban Athletes!

With summer finally here, we’re kicking things off with a cookout on May 30, taking Glover classes outside, and partnering with some great people including Whole Foods Market, Yoga Hikes, and the Washington Hilton Pool.

Summer Kick-Off Cookout

Join UAC staff and athletes Saturday, May 30th from 3 p.m to 7 p.m. at Montrose Park for a day of games, BBQ, and fun!

We're firing up the grill, getting the margarita mix going, and breaking out the bocce ball. Bring friends, some food to share, and any lawn games you might have..

Montrose Park is located off of R Street in Georgetown. We will meet in the large open area just by the intersection of R and 30th.

Glover Park Schedule + Class Update

We heard from many of you that you’d like different class times, that you’d like to see more barbell workouts, that you would to have outside options. Starting June we’re delivering this to you. We’re also starting a new “open gym” format that allows you to more flexibility with attending classes.

June Schedule

Monday | Urban Athlete
Tuesday | Urban Athlete Barbell

Wednesday | Outdoor Bootcamp
Thursday | Urban Athlete
Friday | Urban Hike
Saturday | Classes @ Georgetown

Click here to view the schedule on MBO.

You’ll notice several changes. First, we’re moving Saturday classes to our Georgetown location. There are 2 class options (OutRun and Urban Athlete) and 3 time options (8:30-10:30).

Two New Classes @ Glover Park

Outdoor Bootcamp
Take your workout to the great outdoors! These will be located in different areas of DC and will be led by UAC trainers, although expect surprise guest coaches!  These sessions will be similar to the Open Gym Training in that you can show up anytime during the training time. The coach will set up several stations and you can go through as many as you can handle!

Urban Hike
This isn’t a Sunday stroll. We’re packing a bag with a TRX, workout bands, and other equipment for a dynamic hike around the neighborhood. We’ll use the streetscape for workouts like box jumps, step-ups, handstands, and pushups.

We're also adding some evening training options. Check here for a schedule

Class Format

In terms of class format, starting June 1 we will transition to an open-schedule format with start times at 6:00, 6:30, 7:00, and 7:30.  You will have the option of doing a complete hour, an express 30 minute session, or “The Whitney” which is 90-minutes.  You will only have to sign up for one time slot.

Here’s how the timing will flow:

1-10 minutes: Warmup and Workout overview
11-30 minutes: Workout Block #1 (Urban Athlete format or Barbell)
31-40 minutes
People who are staying will go through the halftime
People who are arriving will go through the warmup

41-60 minutes: Workout Block #2 (Urban Athlete format or Barbell)
People who are staying will go through the halftime
People who are leaving will go through the cool down

What we expect from you
We expect that you will show up on time, read and execute the warmup, ask questions when you need help, and maintain form and intensity.

This will take some time to perfect, so we ask that you come in with an open mind and provide feedback along the way. I understand that this may throw you off your schedule and habits, but I hope that you can work with us!

Georgetown Update

Special Class Types Starting June 1st

Urban Athlete | Mud Run Prep (MRP)
Beginning June 1st, Mondays at Georgetown will be Urban Athlete OCT (Obstacle Course Training). Each class will follow our Turf/Grid/Open format, but there will be an emphasis on the monkey bars and pull ups, carrying and throwing, lunging and crawling, and sprinting and jumping. We might even throw mud on you.

Urban Athlete XX
Sometimes girls just wanna workout with other girls, crank Back Street Boys, and push each other during a workout. In the month of June, Sundays at 10:30a.m. will be the XX chromosomes. Want to bring your boyfriend? Then come to the 11:30a.m. class. There’s still time for brunch! We’re still working on an official name.

Season Pass

Imagine having access to a gym + a variety of pre-planned weekly fitness activities of your choosing. Feel like paddle boarding and checking out the sunset on the Potomac? Want to give your legs a workout with a bike ride on the Capital Crescent Trail? Stressed out from a long week and want to relax and get your yoga vibe on? You can with a Season Pass at Urban Athletic Club.

We want to focus on the CLUB side Urban Athletic Club so we're collaborating with some really great places and fitness instructors to bring you a comprehensive program of daily fitness, weekly events, and monthly challenges. Some of our upcoming events include a YogaHikes, a pool workout + a social at the Washington Hilton Pool, and Stand-up paddle boarding.
